U.S. 2026 · Hypothetical scenario

Allocate the Senate’s 35 election seats

Choose hypothetical winners in the 35 listed races. We add them to the other 65 seats from a dated membership list. No race is assigned in advance.

These are your assumptions, not election results or a forecast. The baseline is the party division published October 9, 2026, not a guarantee of future membership. Independents are not assigned to a caucus. This calculation does not determine organizational control or Senate votes.

Party seats in your scenario

0 of 35 election seats assigned. 35 remain. Neither D nor R has been assigned 51 seats.

Dated baseline + your assumptions. 51 of 100 is an absolute majority.

D = Democrats (D); R = Republicans (R); I = Independent; O = Other.

¹ GPO’s October 9 membership list: D 32, R 31 and 2 independents outside the 35 listed races. With this baseline, D needs 19 of 35 election seats to reach 51; R needs 20. No cooperation among independents or others is assumed.

Your hypothetical winners

Each selector assigns only a party label. It does not claim a candidate from that category is on the ballot. The 35 races follow the dated FEC/GPO directory.

Sources and calculation

The importer cross-checks all 100 seats against GPO’s class directory and party typography in the original PDF: 45 D, 53 R and 2 independents. Class II and the Ohio and Florida Class III seats are excluded before counting the other 65 seats. A party label does not establish candidacy or caucus alignment. Changes after the source date are not incorporated automatically.
